How Close Can a Shed be to a Fence in the UK

There are many issues related to the placing of the shed on an own plot. Regardless of a fact, that an individual who has a private territory has certain rights to activities such as constructing and removing objects within the borders of the fence there is still a matter of neighbours fence and permission of the government. Actually, this is a very sensitive question in the UK and people should consider many aspects before purchasing material and building an object even on their own areas.

According to the law the person doesn’t need to have any permission or negotiate installation with anyone if the dimensions related to the height of the object is less than 2.5 meters. It is also important to pay attention to its length and width because a garden shed shouldn’t cover more than 50% of free space. The shed can’t be placed on the front side of the house. If a workshop is placed two or fewer meters from the house it must be less than 2.5 meters in height. If the construction is based on the decking technology it should be below 30 centimeters. An object must be used only for certain domestic purposes. It is also vital to take into account such facts as:

  • neighbors’ tolerance;
  • possible negative impact on the fence due to the too close installation;
  • a falling shadow.

In order to avoid any obvious and unexpected problems it is better to build the shed at least a meter from other objects except for the house (2 meters) and not on the front part of the plot.
